Class of'30

Elizabeth Miller retired from teaching high school math and science in 1971. Since that time, she and her husband have traveled quite a bit. They purchased a winter home in Mount Dora, Fla. The Millers celebrated sixty-two years of marriage on June 8, 1996.

Class of '33

Carrie McCuin (’95) Selby wrote that her grandmother, Frances Thomas Westman, is doing well and took a trip last fall to the state capitol, where she had a nice time. Frances and her husband, Homer, had their family for Thanksgiving dinner this year at their home in Pleasant Valley. In attendance were their daughter, Barbara, and husband Bruce McCuin; their granddaughter Kate, fiance Russ Clark, and his son, Travis; granddaughter Carrie and her husband, Dean Selby; and Homer and Frances’ cat, Jenny.

Class of '34

Ada Ingalls Martin wrote that her daughter, Marianne Martin ’68 has a son, Todd Rogow ’93, G’95, and a daughter, Jennifer ’95, who received their degrees from UVM. Jennifer is now enrolled in medical college in the state of Washington, Marianne’s daughter, Maegan, is currently a student at UVM. Mary Peet Green of Cornwall, Vt., wrote sadly that her husband died on November 1, 1998, of Alzheimer’s disease. In May 1998, Mary flew to Gainesville, Fla., for her grandson’s wedding. She recently spoke to the Vermont Geneaological Society and the Rotary Club about Cornwall, Vt.

Class of '36

Bill and Pauline (’38) Peters wrote that there is nothing new to report. They spend five months in Vermont, and the balance of the year in Florida. Eugene Merchant received the JSPE Prize from the Japan Society of Precision Engineering in December 1997. He was the first recipient of the prize.

Class of '37

Harriet Gile Bingham is now in her mid-80s “but still going strong.” She tries to get to Vermont once a year and takes two or three other trips during the year.

Class of '39

Harold Haynes of North Troy, Vt., is the 1999 recipient of the Community Service Award from Community National Bank. He was honored for his dedicated leadership of numerous community initiatives and organizations. Margaret Spencer Steward wrote from Calgary, Ontario, Canada, last February that she was planning to attend our 60th Reunion in June. Norma Bodette Menish divides her time between Herkimer, N.Y., and West Addison, Vt. Norma enjoys volunteering at the library, and she was recently named “Volunteer of the Year.” She also works on the Meals for the Elderly program and serves on church committees. She is already looking forward to her 50th high school reunion in 2000 and her UVM reunion in 2004.
