1989 Hi 89’ers! I had a great time catching up with Kate Fallon Croteau, Stefanie Conroy Wallach, Susan Mooney Noonan, Maureen “Moe” Kelly Gonsalves, Diane Peligal O’Halloran, Kim Slomin McGarvey and Robyn Fried Boyd in Miami this spring. We did nothing but talk, relax and hang-out for 72 hours. It was a most welcome respite from everyday life! My belated congrats to Christine Striano Arruda and her husband, Bruce, who had a baby boy last summer. He joins older brother, Brian. And also, congratulations to Susanna Giombetti Witcher and her husband, Billy, who welcomed a baby boy, William, this July in Concord, NH. Sarah Cioffi-Crounse emailed with news that she was featured in the March 3, 2003 issue of People Magazine. Her husband was to be deployed to Iraq and the magazine did an article on them. Melinda Kirsner Sherman had a baby boy, Benton David Sherman, in May 2002. She lives in Steamboat Springs, Colo., with husband, Jonathan, and she just became partner at the law firm of Sharp, Steinke and Sherman, LLC. Melinda reports that Kerin Hildebrand, Kathy McCabe, Laura Martinelli, and Gail Rosenthal Arkin visited her this past winter for a ski vacation. It was the first time they were all together since 1991. Gail had her third son, Jared, in March 2002. She lives in Scotch Plains, N.J. with husband, Jeff, and two older sons, Jacob and Aaron. Melinda sees Jenny Aust quite a bit when she visits Boulder. Melinda would love to get in touch with Gina Lalli, Julie Delf and Greg Froehlich. I heard from Andrew Malkin, who is married to Ellery Stokes. They just relocated from Evanston, Ill., to Connecticut after getting their MBAs at Kellogg (Northwestern). Ellery is working on Kool Aid marketing at Kraft Foods, and Andrew is back in trade book publishing as a brand manager at AOL Time Warner Book Group focusing on James Patterson novels and the Rich Dad Poor Dad financial series. Since moving back, they have reconnected with fellow UVMers Ed and Michelle Howe, Adam Ansaldi, Brian Bodell, Shannon Deegan, Seth Moeller, and Shelley Tregor. Ellen Stecklow Marcus and her husband, Eric, live in East Rockaway, N.Y., and had their third child, Ethan Scott, in May 2002. He joins brothers, Alex and Jonathan. Ellen continues to practice law part-time. Janet Levi Wild is “busy at home with three amazing children,” and they recently moved from Plainview N.Y., to Melville N.Y. Janet is also very active participating in tennis. Rachel Ann Cummings works part-time as an optometric assistant and contact lens technician in Burlington, and she is also busy raising her family, playing sports, and traveling. Laura Curry Dukat recently moved from Hawaii to Italy for two years and is enjoying her time in Europe and raising daughter, Hannah. Elizabeth Cecelia Porter lives in Vienna Va., where she provides psychotherapy services for children, adolescents, and families and is starting a private practice. She keeps in touch with Ann Rutherford Redfield and Erika Zaff Hessian and would like to track down Kris Hathaway Sourbeer. Raymond Quesnel lives in Winston-Salem, N.C. with his wife, Wendy, and their daughter. Raymond works as an assistant to the headmaster, and he coached basketball and baseball. Last summer he took his daughter to Burlington, and they “took one look around and declared that she wanted to attend UVM, too!” Guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! Andrew Henne is a technical sergeant in the USAF and lives in Belgium with his wife and two children. He is also a training officer for the Air Force Fire Department. Philip Camp finished a general surgery residency at UVM in 1999, then went to the University of Iowa for a surgery fellowship. He is now an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Kentucky with fellowship programs involved with heart failure and heart and lung transplants. Lisa Crosta McDonald and her husband, Brett, welcomed a son, Brady, in July 2002. He joins sister Alexandra in the McDonalds’ Summit N.J. home. Jennifer Larhette lives in Hingham Mass., with her husband, Mike. Jennifer got together for a reunion last February in Boston with Stacey Biasin Hanrahan, Angie Difeo Pankosky, Laura McClellan Dolan, Patty Collins Nusser ’90, and Heather Feltmate Busch ’90. Robert Rhoad is busy practicing law at Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur as well as teaching as an adjunct professor of law at George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. Gretchen Richer Dartt is very happily living in Ferrisburgh, Vt., with her husband, Tim, and two sons, Noah and Zebadiah. Prior to being at home with her children, Gretchen did work with animals at clinics and shelters. Christine Catterton lives in Essex Junction, Vt., with her husband and sons Gordon and Zachary. She finished her law degree from Vermont Law School in 1997 and worked as a lawyer until she had children in 2000. She looks forward to returning to part-time practice and would love to hear from any classmates in the area. Meg Eby Boothby lives outside Atlanta. Ga., with her husband, Chris, and daughters Grace and Lily. She works part-time as a physical therapist. Wendy Tayler Quesne and her husband, Ray, have been keeping busy with their children, Kelly and Jonathan, in the Winston-Salem, N.C., area. Karen Carboneau lives in Springfield, Vt., with her son, Joshua, and two dogs. She has been a rehab director for almost six years at subacute/skilled nursing facility. Her sister, Kim Carboneau Schneller was married to Mike Schneller and now has a daughter, Anne Marie, and a stepdaughter, Cate. Donald Fox lives in R.I., with his wife and children. He keeps in touch with Dave Paolella ’90, Deb Ireland ’90 and Kristin McElmcel ’90. Christine Broe lives in Maine, has two sons, Ryan and Ethan, and works as veterinarian for the Maine Harness Racing Commission. Gretchen Kirby is a statewide consultant for the VT D.O.E., where she provides technical assistance to families of students with autism spectrum disorders and consults with their school teams. She reports that Joy McQuillan and her husband, Jim G’02, welcomed their first child, Anna, in February 2003. The McQuillans are happily enjoying their expanded family in Massachusetts, where Jim is teaching at Wellesley College. Edward Bibko has been practicing law in London for the past three years as an international securities attorney. He was working for a client in Yakutia in northeastern Siberia. Matt Kelber married Jennifer Sonnabend in September 2002. Scott Lifschun ’88 was the best man. Ian Gross ’88, Mitch Lieberman ’88, Drew Gelfenbein ’90, David Kemp ’90 and Joshua Diamond ’90 were all in attendance Congratulations to Tracy Hauser Scarrow and her husband, James, who are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Emily Casad Scarrow, who was born in July. 1990 Richard First is still living happily in Richmond, Vt., enjoying the changing seasons and playing competitive ultimate Frisbee with alumni such as Bob Stoddard, Caleb Marriott, Damon Byerly, Bob Lobel, and others. Richard’s business, POMG Bike Tours of Vermont (www.pomgbike.com) is entering its eighth year. He wrote, “You should come join us on the tour.” David Logan and his wife live in Tempe, Ariz. They were awaiting the arrival of a new addition to their family when he wrote in March. Stuart Montgomery lives in Portland, Oreg., where he has a practice in orthopaedic surgery with a specialty in sports medicine. Robert Klein lives in San Francisco with his wife and two-year-old daughter. He reported that Brian Morris has a baby girl, Aspen, and Loren Monroe has a baby boy, Miles, both their first children. Robert welcomed them to the world of sleep deprivation. Debra Schultz Ireland lives outside of Richmond, Va., along with her former roommate Sarah Rodier Wilkinson. Debra is a full-time mom to Ashley and Shelby. When she wrote in February, she and Sarah were planning to visit their former roommate, Kristen “Kiki” Foster McElmeel, at her home in Chicago in May. William Wynick and his wife welcomed twins, Peter Thomas and Eleni Rose, into their family on December 12, 2002. They live in Pittsburgh. He also wrote that his roommates Kevin Birney and Steve Medwin ’89 also had their first children this year. Another roommate, John Phillips ’89, welcomed his second and third. They were wondering if UVM will have a group tuition discount available in about 18 years. Elizabeth O’Neill Cabrera wrote that she and Signe Jensen Dahl, Margo Deschenes Austin, and Carolyn Chafee Howard all live in the Burlington area and get together regularly with their families. Elizabeth noted that she, Signe, and Margo all had babies last year within eight weeks of each other. Lisa Patterson enjoyed catching up with Leslie Poitas Tenhope, Paige Chamberlain de Santis, and Beth Simmons Reid in Boston last October. Lisa lives in Damestown, Md. Michael Bluto recently moved from Lake Tahoe, Nev., to Hershey, Pa., so his wife, Marsha, could attend the Milton S. Hershey School of Medicine at Penn State. They adopted a baby from Russia and named him Cole Michael. Christa Vaughn Myers spent five years in the Bay area of California, working for Patagonia as a store manager before she, her husband, and their two sons, Max and Will, moved back to New England (Bedford, N.H.). She is a ski patrol volunteer at a local ski area and a part time assistant to the director of gift registry at Linens ’N’ Things Co. in Bedford, N.Y. William Callahan lives in New York City, where he gets together with Jeffrey Bilado and David Schoenberger for dinner so they can keep their friendship and “bond of brotherhood” alive and well. He wrote, “After losing our brother, Cesar Murillo ’91, we realize that life is too short and friendships are very important.” Amy Chiratti of Madison, Wisc., keeps busy with her many hobbies, biking, running, welding, making bio-diesel fuel, and having fun with her border collie pup. Deanna Kiser-Go wrote from Berkeley, Calif., that 2002 was an eventful year. She left for Egypt soon after her marriage to spend six months conducting research for her PhD dissertation in Egyptian archaeology and art. She and her husband, Steve, were thrilled that many UVMers attended their wedding: Natalie Villedrouin, Rebecca Winterson Grubelic, Julia Sustin, Amy Wolk, and Tracy Greene, and she hopes they will visit them in their new house soon. Anne Penfield and family built a house in Strafford, Vt., to house a range of animals, mostly horses. The house is powered by sun, and they “net meter” the excess energy produced back to the power company. Tracy Greene and husband Ken were married on May 25, 2002. Sue Owens Harrison, Bonnie Barton, and Eric Fisher flew out for the celebration. Ann Maikkula Frazier visited her in San Francisco and they enjoyed playing with the seals at Pier 39 and laughing about their UVM days. Tracy and Ken adopted a Yellow Labrador Retriever from New Hampshire, which they flew to California with their wedding gift money. Andrew Radden of Venice, Calif., wrote that he was to be married to Patrice Paul in August in Santa Barbara. Rich Leibowitz, Scott Lasano, Trever Knoflick, Greg Linard, John Nichols, and Larson Sequist were planning to attend the ceremony. Michael Good announced the birth of his second son, David, in May 2001, joining his big brother Forest in the family’s home. Michael and family moved to Fayetteville, N.C., when he was promoted to district forester. His wife, Linda, stays at home with their sons. Lynn Atkinson moved to San Francisco in 2000 to work for Morgan Stanley, and she was married last June in Napa. She recently had lunch with Renee Marcus Shelton, who also lives in San Francisco and works in the same building. Shannon Blake of South Burlington, Vt., was promoted to major in the U.S. Army/Vermont National Guard in October 2002. Julia Carlson wrote from Bellingham, Wash., that she is pursuing a second bachelor’s degree in industrial design. She was recently written up in the local paper for a design award she won. Julia sees Marnie Brown (’91) Conti and family in Portland, Oreg., regularly Julia sent a “big shout out” to Anne Frisch, Rebecca Menza, Tim Bluto and Rob Lavigne. Carrie LoVetere Stephany, her husband, Dave ’89, and their children, Alex, Mia, and Adam, live in Westerville, Ohio. Carrie is taking time off from her career as a hydrogeologist to stay home with her children, and Dave is community outreach director for the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer. Susan Potter is pursuing a master of education degree at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. She is a single parent to her son Sawyer, and she works full-time as a high school math teacher. Kelly Gearwar Brilliant recently welcomed a second son, Nicholas, into the family. She is a physician assistant with a master of public health degree, working at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, Fla. Robin Naame is an ICU nurse at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, N.J. She welcomed her second child, George, into the family on October 22, 2002. George joins his older sister Katia, who was born Christmas day 1998. Sarah Shaw wrote from Alta, Utah, that her most frequent UVM visitor is Liz Bell, who is a tour guide for Princess Tours. Sara also caught up with Lynne Schleede, who practices optometry in Virginia Beach, Va., when she was in Denver. She enjoyed lunch with Dale Caldwell ’89 and Krissi Bryan ’92 when she visited Burlington in July. Christopher Everett loves life in South Florida with his wife, Rose, and their twins Jackson Stowe and Skye Everett. 1991 Mona Kulkarni Caron wrote that she and her husband, Darryl, are the parents of two children, Justin, born in April 1999, and Meghana, born in February 2001. Mona had been with Thomson Delmar Learning for 11 years, and, after having been in marketing management for several years, she has been working part-time in marketing for the past two years. Darryl is the owner/publisher of Adirondack Sports & Fitness magazine, which he started three years ago. They live in Clifton Park, N.Y. Every summer, either with or without their families, they get together for a weekend in different locales in the Northeast. Last summer, Mona spen t a ladies-only weekend in New York City and had a blast. One of these days, we’ll make it up to Burlington. Here’s an update on the group: Heather Battaly and her husband, Cliff Roth, celebrated their first wedding anniversary in January. Heather is a philosophy professor at Cal State Fullerton. She completed her PhD at Syracuse in 2000. Cliff is an attorney and an insurance mediator for the elderly. They live in Placentia, Calif. Katy Bridges recently completed her MS degree in quality management. She is the manager of quality resources at Brockton Hospital, and she lives in Taunton, Mass., in her new town home. Anne Schmase Kasperowicz and her husband, Pete, announced the birth of their son, Samuel Robert, on February 20, 2003. He joins big sister Georgia, born in May 2000, in their Annandale, Va., home. Anne worked part-time as an accountant and will now be a full-time mom. Pete is a trade journalist for Inside Washington Publishers, and he is the publisher of a trade journal on Cuba. Amy Fernald Parent and her husband, Brian, live in Fairfield, Conn., with their son, Michael, who was born in September 2001. Amy recently left Bayer Corporation after nine years working in research and scientific marketing. She now works part-time as a clinical science specialist for FusionMD, a medical education company. Brian is still at Bayer and works in the IS department. They are also in touch with Natalie Martus, who is doing well and living in Oregon. Dave and Kathy Glidden (’91) Beyna live in Norton, Mass., with their son, Colin. Sheila Maxwell Tremblay and husband Matthew live in Island Pond, Vt., with their children Sierra Denaige, born May 28, 1999, and Evan Matthew, born May 23, 2002. Sheila is currently teaching. 1993 Our 10th reunion has come and gone, and by all accounts it was a rousing success. More than 150 classmates for our reunion, although one of them (me) had to pull out at the last minute and was sorry to miss the festivities. However, according to my spies, the class of 1993 represented itself quite well, and fun was had by all. Interesting class news to report: Zack Gund, a recipient of this year’s UVM Young Alumni Award, married Lindsay Guinan on July 12, 2003, on Nantucket. Zack’s brother Grant ’91 served as best man. In attendance at the wedding were Tom and Julie Egan, Wolfe and Amanda Grande, Chris and Liz Pollack, Nicole Gagnon, Scott Newbold, Meade (MJ) Berman, Lily Oates Rosengard and husband Eric, Ted and Nina Ouellet Rich, Chris McCabe ’91, Tim and Melissa Moriarty ’91 as well as yours truly. Toby Kearney checked in recently to report that he is alive and well and living in Boston. He is studying for his MBA at Babson, where he often sees Joe McCarthy, who is also hitting the books for his MBA. Nataschka Nifka wrote that she recently visited her old roommate, Kate Teahan (’94) Whipple and her husband (our classmate) Steve and met their beautiful newborn Sam. They are doing great as always and somehow don’t look tired. Beth Zimmerman-(’94) Voelm wrote, “The fall of 2001 brought many changes for us. Tony and I quit our jobs, sold our house in northern Virginia, and moved 3,000 miles away to Redmond, Wash. Tony accepted a position at Microsoft in the server group, and I am now a stay-at-home mom for our daughter, Lillian, born in June 2003. In his first 48 hours, Connor watched Dad’s UVM Catamounts qualify for their first-ever NCAA tourney bid, and Mom’s Duke Blue Devils win their fifth straight ACC tournament.” Hurray to Lilly Oates Rosengard and husband Erik, who are proud to announce the birth of their first child, Ethan, who was born this winter on January 18. Will Kohler sent a hello. He has been living outside of Boston in Westwood, Mass., with his wife, Adele, son John, and daughter Ella. Kim Kinsella-Goddu sent along a nice note (as well as a picture of her beautiful daughter Anna) from the University of Washington, where she is studying to receive a BSN in nursing. Lisa Lamere (now Niedzielski) recently wrote that she married Peter Niedzeilski on January 22 at the Wolfeboro Inn in Wolfeboro, N.H. Jill Lawson ’94 was the maid of honor. 1994 Songs are written about it. Movies are made about it. The “ten-year reunion” historically remains the quintessential opportunity to demonstrate to your friends and peers that the years since college graduation have been well spent. While we all know that fantasizing is fun, the truth is that what a reunion really means to most of us is a great chance to see old friends and make new memories. So, mark your calendars, contact your friends, and make your reservations now, because when the weekend of June 3-6 rolls around next summer, you’ll want to be heading back to Burlington. John May and his wife, Megan, welcomed their new daughter, Suzanne Hartman May, on September 5, 2002. John’s good friend, Luke Smith, married Jennifer Hut last December in Washington, D.C. Friends and classmates Damon Kinzie ’92, Sam Weber, Maura Mahoney, David Granger ’95, and Cristo Doyle ’95 attended the wedding. Narric Rome spent last fall managing a campaign for lieutenant governor in Vermont. He’s now moved on to a larger campaign, that of former Governor Howard Dean in his quest for the presidency. Narric is a staff member in the policy and research office, where he works on keeping the Dean record accurate. This was a busy year for Narric as he became engaged to Megan Kelleher over President’s Day weekend on top of Killington Mountain. They were married in September in Rye, N.Y. Steven Deliduka married Bethanee Schlosser last May in Edinboro, Pa. Other ’94 grads in attendance were Benjamin Goldhaber and Tracy Thomas Boland. Steve and Bethanee met in medical school at Penn State; they will be living in Jacksonville, Fla., for one year while Steve finishes his residency at the Mayo Clinic, after which they will move to Atlanta, Ga. Gevry Becker graduated from Boston College’s MBA program in May with a concentration in technology-based marketing. She spends her free time training for sprint triathlons and traveling. Every year, Rebecca Lindsay and her former UVM roommates Jenni Johnson Gahelsberg, Chrissy Palmer Davis, Erica Lombard Goodrich, Judy Aber, Jun Kim Pierson, Jennifer Seward, and Mollie Monroe Naughton have a week-long reunion at a different location across the country. Some of the places the group has met include Boston, South Carolina, California, St. Thomas, Burlington, and Cape Cod. “Now that many are married and have kids, the girls go for the first half of the week, and the families join us for the second half of the week,” wrote Rebecca. One of the reunions must have included the recent marriage of Jennifer Seward to Glen Button. Rebecca and Erica were attendants, and Judy, Mollie, Jenni, Jun, Chrissy, and Matt Davis were also present for the festivities. Karen Fanton Puzella gave birth to a son, William John Puzella, last October. All are doing well, and Karen and her husband, Mark, are having fun being new parents. Brian Rod recently started an independent consulting firm to help land trusts, public agencies, and landowners with land conservation and stewardship services. He is now living in Taos and enjoying the beautiful mountains and valleys of northern New Mexico. Matt Richer is a financial analyst at IBM in Williston, Vt. He, his wife Elena Ramirez G’97, and their daughter, Emma, live in Shelburne. Jodi Fish married Brett Wasserlauf in June 2002. The wedding was held in New York City, and they now live in St. Louis, Mo. Jodi keeps in touch with Laurie Spiro Weiss, Josh Weiss, Karen Fried Jacob, Hilary Hunt Cleary, Rebecca Rudy, and Todd Silva. Erin Menut is pursuing a PhD in literature at the University of Utah. Eric Erston and his wife recently attended the wedding of Douglas Davenport ’93 in New York City. Other UVM alums in attendance included Trevor Norton ’93 and Jack Bahrenburg ’93. Eric wrote, “Good old UVM times are reincarnated each weekend with fellow Boston residents Steve Varrichio, Dale Beach, and J.P. Fine ’96.” Jonah Sigel welcomed son Jordan Max Sigel last October. Lucy Hopkin was married in Aspen, Colo., last September. She wrote that she and her new husband are “loving life.” They headed to Patagonia for a five-week honeymoon and just moved to Bend, Oreg., last summer. In September Ricki Friedman married Eric Fowler in Oakdale, N.Y., after which she relocated to Syracuse, N.Y. Sharin Phillips White wrote that she “had fun at Ri-Ra in Burlington with Andrea Riviore, Jen Hayes, Cyndee Trahan, and Aimee Lahier.” She and her husband, Chris, moved to Essex Junction, Vt., at the beginning of this year and would love to hear from old friends. Ali Yeyinmen received a master’s degree from MIT’s Sloan School of Management last June. Lynn Parker moved to Santa Rosa, Calif., in May 2001 to deepen her spiritual practice at the Blue Mountain Center for Meditation. She is also actively involved in Quaker service projects. She lives with her sweet cat, Chloe. Melissa Evans is an attorney specializing in environmental, construction, and complex commercial litigation. She was recently engaged and is planning her wedding for the fall of 2004, trial calendar permitting. She also shared news from fellow UVM classmates: Mike and Amy Barrett Paquette recently welcomed a baby boy; Jean Jagielski Dysinger also welcomed a new baby; Brenda Mason and Amy Whitford ’93 are pursuing careers in the Boston area; Kristen Martelle (’95) Hugsman attends Vermont Law School. For Craig Richardson’s February birthday his wife, Jen, planned a ski trip to Breckenridge, Colo, where they joined Craig’s former UVM roommate, Wes Kindt. “While on vacation, we got our 22-month-old daughter on skis, and we’re happy to report that she enjoyed it,” wrote Craig. Laura Cadmus lives in Montpelier, Vt., where she keeps busy working and skiing. Matt Gildenhorn lives in Chicago, and, in June, he was married to Tara Houston. Jennifer Brody ended a very long road of education with her graduation from a doctoral program in clinical psychology. “It is nice to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel,” she wrote. Jennifer and her husband, Jason, are settling into the next phase of life in the beautiful and peaceful Hudson Valley in New York, a setting that often brings UVM to mind for Jennifer, “especially when trudging through the mounds of snow this past winter,” she wrote. Christopher Loomis works with Chris Melendy at the A. Johnson Company. He enjoys getting together with Jon Low ’85 and Jon’s wife Susan and son Teagan. Becky Dempsey lives in Sudbury, Mass., with her husband, Chris Foley; they just welcomed their first son, Patrick. She keeps busy with him and her artwork. Becky sees Hilary Gallagher, who works at a marketing company in Boston, on a regular basis. She also keeps in touch with Donna Cusimano, who is a lawyer in New York City. Joanna Brick practices law in New Jersey, where she is a third-year associate specializing in family zoning and real estate. She keeps in touch with Kristina Kloneris, who recently returned to Nassau, Bahamas, after spending a year in Greece. Joanna also frequently sees Alexandra Orloff, Arthur Ettinger, and Kelly Koenig Levi. In June, Kelly and her husband, Dan, announced the birth of their twins, Eliana Claire and Alec Jordan. Kelly is a law professor at Pace Law School in White Plains, N.Y. She, her husband, the twins, and their Wheaten Terrier, Mulligan, live in New York City. Matt Hutton and Sean Toshey have disbanded The Red Telephone, the band they began at UVM in 1994 as Venus Envy, later signed by Warner Brothers Records. Gregory Aprillano moved to Richmond, Va., in 2000 and finished a master’s degree in anesthesia from the Medical College of Virginia. Last December, Gregory and his wife celebrated the birth of their first child, Nicholas Robert. Scott O’Connell is still enjoying life in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where he is general manager of Wildwood Smokehouse and Buffalo’s, both located on Vail Mountain. His new responsibilities as “Dad” have cut back on a few of his ski days, “but only a few,” wrote Scott. In April, Cara Cassavoy married Jim Ferguson in Birmingham, Ala. UVM alums Jennifer Hindes Sullivan and Barbara Pfaeffle Hunt took part in the festivities. Also wed in April was Stacey Blumer. She married Troy Evans in beautiful Napa, Calif. They currently live in San Francisco, and Stacey works at Schwab. Timothy VanMeter is a post-doctoral scientist and has been busy founding a new charity, the Virginia Brain Tumor Fund, the mission of which is to support brain tumor research and education initiatives. The “Strain for the Brain Team” raises funds through athletic events, and the team’s activities can be viewed at www.strainforthebrain.org. Scott and Kimberly Larson (’95) Edwards recently relocated from Washington, D.C., to Seattle, Wash., where Scott accepted the position of senior manager of standards strategy with Microsoft. Kimberly continues her job as an associate political director for the State Public Interest Research Groups. Kimberly and Scott look forward to staying in touch with their UVM roots, especially since both of Kimberly’s parents, Roberson and Karin Larson, are retired UVM professors. Kimberly’s brother, Jonathan Larson ’93, is currently in Slovakia for a year on a Fulbright scholarship. He is working on his PhD in linguistic anthropology at the University of Michigan. In May, Craig Dembek joined Turner Investment Partners as a portfolio manager and senior research analyst. He lives in Concordville, Pa. Deanna Fryer married Kent Deinzer in Connecticut last September. They currently live in New Jersey. Peter Kerber and his wife, Sherri, welcomed son Harrison Paul into their family in August 2002. Harrison, along with their five-year-old daughter Madelyn, helped keep spirits high last year as the Kerber family unfortunately lost their business to a fire. In the interim, with plans to rebuild underway, they opened a restaurant in Brattleboro, Vt., called the New England House. Interestingly, this location was once owned and operated by Ned Grace ’73. Last December, the Kerbers visited classmates Heather Harris, Lisa Boege, Neil Gibson, and Derek Beard in Stowe. Heather is living in South Bristol, Maine, where she is a crewed charter broker for Ed Hamilton and Co. When she is not chartering, she teaches sea kayaking for L.L. Bean and continues to ski patrol at Saddleback ski area. Lisa is enrolled at Cornell, pursuing a master’s in landscape architecture. In her free time, she enjoys traveling to the lakes region of New Hampshire. Neil Gibson is an instructor in the Pacific Northwest Outward Bound program. Derek is a forester with New England Forestry Consultants in the Quabbin region of western Massachusetts. Derek is still an avid long distance runner and has won several events. “The local press must love him, because he always seems to get his picture in the sports section,” wrote Peter. Meghan Murphy recently joined the Syracuse, N.Y., law firm of Bond, Schoeneck, and King. In 2000, she received both her law degree, magna cum laude, and her master’s degree in public administration from Syracuse University. Adam and Megan Cotter (’93) Pratt welcomed their first child, Caroline DeWitt Pratt, last April. Adam works at EMC Corporation in business development, and they live in Andover, Mass. Molly Melanson married John Perry III ’93 in June 2003 in Capri, Italy. There were some Catamounts in attendance: Nancy Perks, Jeff Profera ’92, David Clapp ’92, Brett Rouleau ’92, Steven Melanson G’00, and Molly’s sister, Elspeth Melanson, currently a junior at UVM majoring in nursing. “We had a great time and were happy to see our college friends at our reception in Vermont in August,” wrote Molly. 1995 Congratulations to Dean and Carrie McCuin Selby on the birth of their second child, Matthew Carter, who was born on April 13, 2003. Matthew’s brother, Nathan, just turned three and is happy to have the new addition. The Selbys live in Cambridge, Vt., where they are currently building a new home. In 2002, David Gordon completed his PhD at Indiana University in special education. He is currently an assistant professor of special education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Jamie Hosker, who everyone will remember as the most handsome man in the class of 1995, has opened a surf, skate, and snow shop in Marblehead, Mass., called the Brickhouse. Bridget Barr and Phil Bellizia were married on June 28, 2003, and Kelli Shonter and Chris Ford were married on June 5, 2003, both in Vermont. The Ford/ Shonter wedding was also a UVM reunion as the bridal party included Ted Butler, Peter Keith, Jamie Hosker, Lisa Kiniry, Randi Tinkelman, and me. Dale and Melissa (’97) Patterson had a baby girl, Alexis, on March 6, 2003. Melissa also wrote that Kati and Chris Walters had a baby boy, Alexander David, on April 4, 2003. Sandy Sanders and his wife, Briton, welcomed a baby girl, Kenya Eyron, on May 2, 2003. Your class secretary, Michelle, and husband recently had a great dinner with Sandy and Briton and got to meet Kenya as well as catch up about UVM and life since graduation. Jared ’94 and Karen Hammer Larrow also had a baby girl, Shayna Natalie, on May 3. Congratulations to all the new parents! Chris Minott enjoyed a summer of sailing on Lake Champlain. Hopefully fellow UVMers were able to join him. Your class secretary, Jill Cohen Gent, graduated from the MBA program at Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University, in May 2003. She is now working as a senior financial analyst at Steris Corporation in the Cleveland area. Her husband Richard Gent is keeping busy working in his family business and competing in 5K races and an occasional duathlon. Jill and Rich recently welcomed UVM friends John Flint, Lindsay McNight (’97) Flint, and Dana Niles to the Cleveland area as they spent the 4th of July weekend together. Kurt Scanio and Julie Coffin were married on August 10, 2002. Other UVMers in attendance included Heather Wechsler, Tracy Spigelman, Amy Carroccio, Fraser Walsh, Nitish Patel, Tim Tolle, and Jim Houran. The wedding took place in Massachusetts. The newlyweds spent two weeks in Australia on their honeymoon and became certified scuba divers to 100 feet. Kurt is expecting to join the NYPD in July 2003, and Julie is the director of the control and restricted stock group at Fidelity Investments. Jim Houran and his wife, Lori, are living in New York City. Heather Wechsler is a vice principal in Virginia. Tracy Spigelman is an athletic trainer and teacher at the University of New England. Amy Carroccio has recently moved to Florida to go back to school to obtain a degree in chiropractic medicine. Fraser Walsh is an engineer in Colorado. He and his fiancé, Janelle Henke, will wed in September 2003. Nitish Patel is working at Fidelity Investments in the high net worth area. Tim Tolle is working at Lowes as the supervisor in the paint area.

1997 Since graduation, Sarah Oliveri has earned her master’s degree in finance from McCallum Graduate School of Business. She is currently working as a portfolio analyst for Putnam Investments in Boston. On September 2, 2001, she married Igal Bluvol, a software quality assurance engineer for Steelpoint Technology in Boston. There were several UVMers present at their wedding: Meredith Hawkins, a bridesmaid, Lauren Courcelle, Jennie Fossum ’98, Scott Robinson ’94, and newlyweds Scott and Shaina Hammond Vanek. Sarah and Igal are living in Belmont, Mass., and they celebrated their first anniversary with a trip to Nevada and Arizona. Sarah Strife married Michael Barnwell in New York City on November 16, 2002. Fellow classmates at her wedding included Lora Marzilli Webster, Carrie St. Amand Girondano, Alison Wise, and Liz Meehan Barrow. She also spent time with them last summer at Liz’s wedding in Michigan. You may have seen a familiar face on the Rent A Center television commercials. It’s our classmate Adam Devine! He has done two commercials, three films, one television pilot and eight plays in the past 10 months. Erika Meisel Schwartz and her husband, Rob, welcomed a son, Jacob Benjamin, on November 26, 2002. Stacy Cimino and her husband, David, welcomed their son, Nicolas Santo Cimino, on January 13, 2003. Jeremy Reis married Pamela Galler in September 2002. David Newman was a groomsman at the wedding. Jeremy is a third-year associate at their Chicago law firm of Katten Muchin Zavis Rosenman, where he practices real estate law. Eric Hallman got engaged to Sarah Steenson of Richfield, Minn., on a beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, at sunset on February 10, 2003. Wedding plans are in the works for spring 2004, hopefully on a beach in Hawaii. Bill Halligan and Paula Palattella were engaged last December. Bill and Paula have been happily living in Santa Cruz, Calif., for the past two years. Bill is currently enrolled in an MBA program at San Jose State University, and Paula is pursuing her master’s in education from the University of California at Santa Cruz. They both were finishing up their programs last summer, and they were married at Lake Tahoe on August 10, 2003. Nathan Demar married Jen Smith on August 3, 2002, at the Stoweflake Inn. They live in St. Albans, Vt. Nate teaches and coaches varsity basketball and golf at Enosburg Falls High School. Jen works in Burlington at the Vermont State Credit Union. Classmates in attendance at their wedding included Chris and Julie Altemose, Chris Kolb, Heather McLaughlin, Kevin Blagsy, Brian and Alysia Girard, Robin and Pat Duggan, Chris and Alice Norris, and Pete McDougal ’98. Todd and Kadi Burroughs Luchsinger welcomed their second child, Taylor Jane, on March 26, 2003. They also have a two-year-old son Ethan. The Luchsingers live in Syracuse, N.Y., where Todd, a CPA, is a manager in finance and control at Agway Energy. Kadi is a stay-at-home mom. Tim Walsh recently moved to Colorado. He reports that Denver was hit with the worst snowstorm in 90 years last March. He was snowed in with Jill Czucka ’00, Mitch Butler ’99, and Tyler Osmond ’99. It was a mess, but thankfully, they enjoyed a successful goose season and had plenty of birds in the freezer, which they enjoyed during their snowed-in, semi-formal dinner. He sees Katie Jackson out there a lot. She’s a nurse at Children’s Hospital. Brendan Burke married Jen Sheer ’98 last summer in Connecticut. Chris McGuirk also was to be married in New Hampshire last summer. Steve Losordo shares an apartment in Boston with Brian “Bam-Bam” Hughes ’95. They love Beantown but miss New England Wings ’n’ Things in Burlington. John Hallisey spent most of the winter ice fishing in Winthrop, Mass. Peter Rand has convinced himself that the can make the PGA tour and has relocated to Orlando, Fla., where Rob Slocum will caddy for him. They work at Disney World when not on the links. Darren Blasko is living in Stamford, Conn, working for GE. When not at work, he is building and competing in regional battle bot contests. Chris and Emily Steiner Merle welcomed their first child, a girl named Allison, on December 31, 2002. They are currently living in Floral Park, N.Y.

1998 Katherine Davis continues to exhibit her paintings at Doll-Anstadt Gallery, and she is also represented by Bridgette Mayre Gallery in Philadelphia. She married Jeffrey Allen Caldwell, the love of her life, in August. Brenda Mercure wrote from Irvine, Calif., that Krista Emerson is engaged to marry William Porter. A June wedding is planned. Jennifer Liley and her husband have just completed building their new house in Bradford, Vt. They also welcomed their second daughter. Jennifer works as a bookkeeper at the Lebanon Pet Center in New Hampshire. Anthony Essex was accepted into the molecular pharmacology PhD program at the University of California at San Diego. He will begin the program this fall. Lauri Aittola enjoys skiing, snowboarding, throwing parties, and working in a fun industry in Park City, Utah.

1999 Hello 99ers! I want to put my plug in now for our 5th reunion next June. It’s never to early to be talking up our reunion. To all those to whom I said “see you at our 5th year,” the time is coming. We had such a great senior year, so I hope everyone will have the same enthusiasm for our 5th. Start talking it up now. I do have some great updates this time. It seems the season for engagements and weddings. Please keep the news coming. Rick Abbruzzese proposed to his lady friend in June. The lucky lady is Meghan McClure. They will most likely wed sometime next summer. Rick is working for the mayor of Baltimore and will be attending law school at the University of Maryland. Andrew Holmes popped the question to Maren Christensen ’98 while canoeing in a river in Massachusetts. Rob McIntyre was married last spring. Christine Mahoney is also engaged to be married. Ed McCauley was recently engaged as well. I will work on getting more information on these weddings for you. Caroline Bear and Jared Carver are engaged and were to be married in July 2003. Ben Smith is the best man, and Caitlin Russell, Megan Grant, and Jessica Kraemer are members of the wedding party as well. To take a break from engagements, I’ll move on to other news. Casey Hall moved out to San Francisco last spring and is working in admissions at the Art Institute. She is doing great. Case, we miss you in Boston, but have a great city out there. Enjoy it! Sjoerd deLong is a consultant to night clubs and lounges in Manhattan. Recently Sjoerd went out karaokeing in Manhattan with Mike Daly, Ben Britton, Pram, Chuck Rice, Blake Jerrel, Liz Hynes, and Jordan Paul. Sounds like you are living it up. Hayden Aaronson is in graduate school at American University for international development. Sara Kirsner keeps in touch with Kate Morton, Charlotte Kardrick, Britt Browne, and Liz Matthews. Sara is getting a degree in fashion design. Liz is a teacher in Brooklyn, and Britt is applying to a printmaking program to pursue her dream in silk screening. Charlotte is recording her music, and Kate is thinking about working in real estate. Thanks for the great updates! Angela Hendy is engaged to marry Andrew Merrill ’00. They are living in Boston and planning a September 2004 wedding. On May 3, 2003, Robert Stewart and Alison Spies (now Stewart) were married. The reception was held at the Burlington Country Club. With upwards of 29 UVM alums in attendance, the celebration went on and on. They had a gorgeous Vermont day, great food, good music, and the crowd ended the night at Rasputin’s. True UVM spirit. The couple spent their honeymoon in Antigua, and they are currently living in Burlington, Vt. John Worthen lives in Boulder, Colo,, where he is a civil engineer. He enjoys rock climbing and snowboarding in the Rocky Mountains on the weekends. Ralph Tursini lives in Cambridge, Vt., where he has established Tursini Bowl Works, where he sells bowls he makes from local hardwoods. He also sells at Burlington’s Farmer’s Market in the summer. Kim Preuss wrote from Fort Collins, Colo., that she, Jessica Wade, Amy Buckley, Stacey Williams, Aimee Logue, Amy Curran, and Leigh Summers celebrating Bridget Bazinet’s wedding on November 9, 2002, in Maine. Tricia Ross moved to Los Angeles after graduation and she has been happy living there ever since. 2nd Lt. Zachary Miller spent nine months deployed in Uzbekistan and Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Tashia Robinson Brown has been busy completing her master’s degree in educational administration at New York University. She plans to commence her doctoral studies in policy and politics at Columbia in the summer of 2004. Jordana Levine wrote from South Royalton, Vt., that Sam Redman, who lives in Colorado, visited her last Christmas, and they were ski bums. Julie Griffis Parish is a pediatric physical therapist in Phoenix, Ariz. She and her husband, Kevin, were married on September 21, 2002, in Shelburne, Vt. Paula Hartshorn wrote from Jericho, Vt., that she bought her first home in 2002. She enjoys snowboarding with Megan Richardson and Tyler Gibo. Raymond Sicard of Pawtucket, R.I., is traveling and planning for graduate school. Nicole Bogdanowicz got in touch to let us know that she and Pauline Gardner ’00 spent a day together to celebrate her wedding in September 2002. Kimberly Whitbread wrote from Darien, Conn., that Stacy Bauer married Matt Myers in Winooski, Vt., and Sarah Schwartz, Lisa Marksymowicz, Christine Gindy, Kate Robbins, and she were in the wedding party.
