Dear VA Proxies,

For any term in which your student plans to use VA Education Benefits at UVM, they must submit a Request for Enrollment Certification in the myUVM Portal. This allows us to send their confidential enrollment to VA so the Regional Processing Office can adjudicate their claim for benefits. To request enrollment certification have your student log in to the myUVM Portal, navigate to the Veterans page and click on Request for Enrollment Certification.

  • Immediately after their submission they will receive an email confirmation from UVM with the information from the form they submitted.
  • They will receive an email notice from VA.gov when their enrollment information has been successfully received by VA.
  • UVM will never charge you a late fee for pending VA payments, but a late fee and hold will be assessed on your unpaid portion of the bill at the due date. If you would like to request a revised billing statement which includes VA benefits or have questions, please email Veterans@uvm.edu.

If you are eligible to be billed at the in-state tuition rate in honor of your GI Bill® benefits you must:

  • Live in the State of Vermont and update your address with the Registrar's Office
  • Use benefits for the term in which you are billed at the in-state rate

Any out-of-state scholarship may be reduced by at least 40% of the maximum to account for the difference in tuition. Check your financial aid package in the myUVM Portal Student Financial Services tab for details and to view your revised award (see “Important Messages” for information from your SFS aid counselor). Additional grant calculations may apply for UVM specific financial aid. Message sfs@uvm.edu with questions after viewing your award.

See the Tuition Billing for Members of the Armed Forces, Veterans, and Families University Operating Procedure for detailed information on in-state rate billing requirements.

Always review your bill against what you anticipate VA paying to UVM. Online courses, and in some cases Independent Study or Hybrid courses are considered as distance credit hours by VA. All credit hours reported to VA must apply to the degree program in which the student is currently enrolled. Graduate students and Continuing Education students can contact their academic advisors with questions. Undergraduate students can contact their advisor or run a degree audit (linked in the veterans tab in the myUVM Portal) to be sure.
