As of May 20, Green Mountain Transit (GMT) fares have been reinstated on all lines that serve Chittenden County. GMT is the public bus service for North-Western Vermont. It is headquartered in Chittenden County and also serves the surrounding counties. Green Mountain Transit (GMT) and UVM collaborate on a number of projects.  The primary benefit to the UVM community is fare-free, unlimited access to the GMT system for all UVM full-time students, staff and faculty.

GMT Fares Have Returned. How do I continue to ride Fare Free?

Green Mountain Transit has resumed collecting fares on the following routes: Chittenden County local service, Chittenden County commuter service (Milton Commuter, Jeffersonville Commuter), and LINK Express service (Montpelier LINK, St. Albans LINK). As we work with GMT to stand up the new fare app and system, UVM riders will continue to show your CatCard (virtual or physical) to the bus driver to ride fare free. This system will be in place until at least August 1, 2024.
