Leslie is originally from Houston, Texas. She received a B.A. in Biology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She is currently a Ph.D. student in Cellular, Molecular, and Biomedical Sciences, working in the lab of Jason Stumpff at The University of Vermont. The Stumpff Lab studies the molecular processes controlling cell division; Leslie's project explores the cellular consequences when chromosomes fail to segregate properly, instead forming multiple nuclei. This phenomenon occurs frequently in astronaut and in cancer patient populations, often correlating with dramatic health consequences. Leslie hopes to continue working in academic research, aspiring to become a professor.
