Terry Barrett Presents AI Friday at UVM

Terry Barrett, MS, Senior Research Facilitator at the Vermont Advanced Computing Center (VACC) and member of the SOCKS Capacity Team, presented at an AI Friday for the University of Vermont (UVM) Libraries group.

AI Fridays are part of a recurring lecture series that allow graduate students to learn more about the use of AI in the professional sector. The presentation, "Large Language Models on the VACC High-Performance Computing Cluster," took place on November 7, 2025 at the UVM Howe Library.

In the presentation, Mr. Barrett showed how to set up and run Meta's open-source Llama large language models on UVM's high-performance computing cluster. Students then got to participate in a demo implementation of retrieval augmented generation (RAG), a way to customize the models to be more relevant for your learning or research.
