SOCKS Health Team Graduate Research Associate, Katie Grenon, and undergraduate research student, Skyler Heininger, disseminated findings from their work at the University of Vermont College of Nursing and Health Sciences Zeigler Research Forum on May 7, 2025.
Their morning session poster "Feasibility of Automatic Dialog Act Annotation: Adding an Interpersonal Dimension to Clinical Discourse Assessment” detailed research on automated dialog act segmentation. This analytic framework captures interpersonal and pragmatic dimensions of discourse and enables insights into fundamental communication structures that aren’t apparent through lexical analyses alone. Ms. Grenon also presented a Data Blitz Talk, providing a summary of her individual research and findings. Together, Ms. Grenon and Mr. Heininger demonstrated the teamwork and integration of the SOCKS Health Team across disciplines and levels of professional training, with the workforce development and communication skills practiced throughout the year, culminating at this Forum.
The annual Zeigler Research Forum offers an opportunity for students to present their research among peers and leading experts in health sciences. For more information about the 2025 Zeigler Research Forum, click here.
