Make Way for UVM's New Research Vessel, the R/V Marcelle Melosira
|
On UVM Weekend, with Senator Patrick Leahy and Marcelle Leahy by his side, President Garimella honored Senator Leahy's long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship of the Lake Champlain basin and revealed the name of UVM's next-generation Lake Champlain research vessel and its first-of-a-kind features. The new R/V Marcelle Melosira recognizes Marcelle Leahy for her innumerable contributions to quality of life in the Lake Champlain region and honors the legacy of the R/V Melosira, UVM's first floating classroom and laboratory. The 64-foot hybrid electric aluminum catamaran will arrive next year at UVM’s Rubenstein Ecosystem Sciences Laboratory, located in the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain on the Burlington waterfront.
