Stormwater Subsurface Gravel Wetlands in Vermont

As part of the Lake Champlain Sea Grant Research Webinar Series, Andres Torizzo, Principal Hydrologist at Watershed Consulting, and Eric Roy, Assistant Professor at the University of Vermont, explain ongoing research on the effectiveness of subsurface gravel wetlands on flow attenuation and phosphorus capture, and how chloride impacts performance. The research addresses a timely question, as many Vermont municipalities have focused state stormwater permit applications on use of subsurface gravel wetlands to meet impending phosphorus control requirements, but performance data from field installations is lacking.

This presentation describes work conducted as part of the Stormwater Subsurface Gravel Wetlands in Vermont project, which is funded by Lake Champlain Sea Grant and implemented by Watershed Consulting and partners.
