Knauss Marine Policy Fellowships Open to Graduate Students

The Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship 2022-2023 application period is now open! Sea Grant Knauss Fellowships are prestigious one-year, paid fellowships with hosts in executive or legislative offices in Washington, DC. Graduate students from all disciplines who are interested in ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes resources and national policy decisions are welcome to apply. Students need to have aligned career goals and leadership experience, but they do not need experience in policy or water science.

Executive placements may be with NOAA, U.S. Navy, Department of Transportation, Water Power Technologies in the Department of Energy, Fish and Wildlife Service, Environmental Protection Agency, or others. Legislative placements may be with U.S. senators or representatives of committees within Congress, such as the House Committee on Natural Resources or the U.S. Senate Committee on Science, Commerce and Transportation.

The fellowship will start February 1, 2022 and run through January 31, 2023. Base funding for each award is $66,500. 

Application Timeline

  • January 15, 2021:  Submission to Lake Champlain Sea Grant for informal feedback (OPTIONAL) 
  • February 19, 2021: Submission to Lake Champlain Sea Grant by 5:00pm EST
