Ashley joined Lake Champlain Sea Grant and UVM Extension team in November 2015. As the Watershed and Lake Education Coordinator she oversees Watershed Alliance, a K-12 education program which has a UVM and a SUNY Plattsburgh location. In this role she facilitates watershed science professional learning opportunities for K-12 teachers, oversees an undergraduate Watershed Education internship program, and leads K-12 field experiences aboard the R/V Marcelle Melosira and across the watershed. She has a BS in Education with a concentration in Environmental Science and a MS in Natural Resources from the University of Vermont. Her doctorate is from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point where her research evaluated the impact of vessel-based professional learning experiences on K-12 teachers’ knowledge, teaching efficacy, and sense of place.
Ashley’s educational and professional pursuits have been dedicated to helping create a sustainable future for Vermont, the greater Lake Champlain basin and beyond. Ashley works at the state and federal level to support watershed science and environmental literacy. She is the chair of the NOAA Sea Grant Education Network (SGEN) which is the largest network of educators within NOAA. The goal of SGEN is to facilitate communication and interaction among Sea Grant educators and with others in and outside of the Sea Grant network. SGEN members facilitate and improve the delivery of science-based information, programming, and resources to constituent groups at the local, regional, and national levels in support of the Sea Grant mission.
