BIO

Gagan Bajaj, PhD has a doctorate in Molecular Biology and completed two postdoctoral fellowships in cancer research before embarking on a career pivot as a scientific consultant and freelance scientific and grant editor. Gagan supports the development of large and complex grants for the Larner College of Medicine (LCOM). She specializes in biomedical, clinical, and STEM research capacity building programs from federal and non-federal sponsors. She has developed and delivered training curricula and workshops around grant policies, grantsmanship, budget development, and review procedures, presented at institutional, regional, and national forums. A UVM employee since 2015, Gagan has now spent more time in Burlington, Vermont than in any other city in the world, and is constantly exploring and redefining her identity as an immigrant. Her personal research interests have grown to cover topics of race, identity, and the immigrant experience.

  •  Finding Our Common Ground: Equity & Inclusive Excellence Certificate at LCOM
  • Conducted a semi-qualitative landscape analysis to gauge LCOM researchers’ interest in pursuing Health Equity research for her capstone project
  • Volunteers her time and talents to the professional society, National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP), where she participates in its Strategic Alliances Committee, co-hosts the monthly Career Stories webinar, Chairs a NORDP Affinity Group, and is Co-Investigator on a multi-institutional pilot grant to understand immigrant researchers’ experiences and needs
  • She has completed the NORDP LEAD leadership program and will be attending the HERS Leadership Institute in 2024-2025
  • Completed the entering mentoring CIMER-based mentorship training through NORDP and is an active mentor for several individuals since 2022
