Sarah Macy, a dedicated enthusiast of governmental accounting, holds a Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting from Rutgers University and is a Certified Public Finance Officer.  Sarah completed her undergraduate studies at UVM receiving a B.A. in Political Science and a B.S. in Business with a concentration in Professional Accounting in 2007. 

Sarah’s professional journey is marked by a commitment to municipal finance. With an initial foray into public accounting, she quickly found her calling when she joined the City of St. Albans in 2008.  She has held progressively responsible roles, including Finance Director for the Town of Milton, and later as joint Finance Director and Assistant Village Manager for the Town of Essex and Village of Essex Junction.

Currently, Sarah serves as Director of Finance and Administration with the City of St. Albans, marking a meaningful return to her roots.  Beyond her primary role, she offers consulting services and serves as the part-time Government Finance Specialist with the Vermont League of Cities and Towns. In this capacity, Sarah provides indispensable support to Vermont municipal entities, directly benefiting 91 entities to date.  She also develops and conducts essential training sessions for elected officials and finance officers in Vermont. 

Sarah's contributions extend to her involvement in professional associations. She served as President of the Vermont Government Finance Officers Association for five years, and on the board of directors for the New England States Government Finance Officers Association and the Vermont League of Cities and Towns Property and Casualty Intermunicipal Fund.  Sarah is the treasurer and a founding member of Vermont Women Leading Government.  She is dedicated to fostering the field of municipal finance and supporting the public administration landscape in Vermont.
