Congratulations on your admission to the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont! We can't wait to have you join us on your journey to becoming a physician. On this page you will find helpful information to on your the first small steps of your big leap.

We strive to provide a quality orientation program that helps you become familiar with our campus and our community. The Office of Medical Education (OME) coordinates a week-long Orientation course which begins on Monday, August 12 and runs through August 16. More information about Orientation will be emailed to you in early July.

Student dress should be business casual for Orientation. You can read more about what entails business casual attire in the Medical Student Handbook (PDF). You will be instructed on more casual clothing for select activities.

Congratulations! We wish you a happy and successful four years with us. Because Orientation is an essential part of your transition to medical school and is a credit-bearing course, participation during the entire orientation is required. Don't worry! It'll be informative and fun!

Release your background check:
Body

Your acceptance is provisional until you have completed and released the results of a criminal background check. Please review our brochure, "About the AAMC-Facilitated Background Check Service (PDF)"  for more information.

Update your status with us
Body

Use the CYMS tool to PTE by April 30th and CTE with us by June 24 to retain your seat. Committing to enroll means you must withdraw any acceptances or waitlist spots at other medical schools.

U.S. Citizens and permanent residents:

 Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you intend to take out a loan.

Activate your OASIS account:

I'm a new a medical student! What are all these credentials and systems for?

You now have something called a COMID, a NetID, a 95#, myUVM portal, OASIS, MedID, VIC Calendar, etc. How are all of these credentials and systems used over the course of your medical education? I forgot my UVM password. Is there a way to reset or change it?

Where can I find my assigned locker and mailbox?

Assigned locker and mailbox numbers and their associated combinations can be found under a student's Academic History >> Student Resources section, in the OASIS Platform. Instructions on how to open lockers and mailboxes, and how to address mailed items are also provided within OASIS.

Does UVM own/manage medical student housing?

Most medical students live in apartments and properties in the surrounding communities that are within a short distance of the campus. Please visit the Off-Campus Student Housing site for a listing of available housing.
 

Do students tend to live in specific areas close to UVM and the University of Vermont Medical Center?
Body

There are many apartment complexes and condominiums around the medical center area that are close to bus transit routes (UVM students ride for free with their student identification cards). Many students live south or west of campus; however, there are numerous other options. Please refer to the UVM Off-Campus Housing Information webpage

While medical students do not typically live on campus, there might be limited options. On-Campus housing depends on availability after all required undergraduate students are housed and the student's ability to sign a nine-month contract. However, there is also off-campus, affiliate housing available to graduate students.

Do I need to buy a computer?

No, you do not need to purchase a personal computer for your Medical Education. The College will provide you with a device/tablet at orientation. This computer is yours and the Technology Services team (COMTS) provides IT services and maintenance while you are enrolled at the Larner College of Medicine. 

How do I get proof of enrollment at UVM?

"Proof of Enrollment" is requested through the UVM Registrar's Office, via your myUVM portal. After logging into myUVM portal, navigate to the "Registrar" tab and click on enrollment verification in the My Verification channel. Once you successfully signed in, you also can view loan deferment notifications that were sent to lenders (such as VSAC) and any certificates provided to health insurers or other organizations. Please contact the UVM Registrar with any questions or visit the UVM Registrar's Office Enrollment Verifications webpage.

How do Medical Students sign up for UVM Dining Services?

Medical students can sign up for a meal plan. Please reach out to Residential Life or UVM Dining Services with any questions.

How do I connect with my fellow classmates on social media?

The deadline for those holding multiple acceptances to select one school and release all others is April 30th. Please let us know by email at medadmissions@med.uvm.edu if you decide to decline your seat in our class or on our waitlist.
