Summer Enrichment Scholars Program | Mosaic Center for Students of Color | The University of Vermont(title)

The Summer Enrichment Scholars Program (SESP) is a free, five-week pre-college program that supports the holistic success of our incoming first year students who identify as a student of color, first-generation college student, or from a limited socio-economic background.

All students with an interest in SESP may apply. Applications for the class of 2028 are now closed.

SESP provides the opportunity for students to adjust to their new environment and address the challenges they will potentially face during their transition from high school to college.

Student Testimonials

Finding community

Body

Being in SESP has been such a gift. The sense of inclusion and belonging is so strong in this program, I felt like I found my people. I was also able to cultivate important relationships with UVM faculty, staff, got to know campus, and the opportunities and support systems available to students through SESP. I am oh so grateful for the experience.

Having fun

Body

I think the SESP program was the best decision I made this summer. I feel so much more at ease returning this fall because of the connections and memories I made this summer. It was such a fun time and I genuinely enjoyed every single activity.

Making meaningful connections

Body

SESP helped me feel comfortable and acquainted with UVM’s campus, and made me feel like I was part of a smaller community within the university. The people I met during SESP (both students and staff) were extremely genuine and welcoming, and I’m grateful I had the chance to make those connections. I feel a lot more confident approaching my first year of college now, and I’m really glad I pushed myself to participate in this program!

Feeling prepared

Body

I had an amazing time at SESP! I was nervous at first about how I was going to do and what was going to happen but it went so much better than I had expected in my head. I am very grateful for having this experience and I will carry the memories with me through college and beyond. I don't know what or how I would have done if I had just jumped straight into college without this wonderful time beforehand.
