Lázaro is a biologist with a master's degree in Ecology and Natural Resources from State University of the North Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro- UENF. Since his undergraduate years, Lázaro's research has focused on the effects of environmental and landscape pressures on bee communities. During his master's studies he delved into the effects of different approaches to landscape analyses on the interplay between bee diversity and landscape metrics in agricultural landscapes. Also since his master's degree he has participated actively in projects related to crop pollination by wild bees.
As a PhD candidate in Ecology and Natural Resources at UENF and a Visiting Graduate Student at Gund Institute for Environment, Lázaro's research has expanded to evaluate the impact of different spatial attributes on the restoration of bee communities in the Atlantic Forest, Brazil. Combining remote sensing tools for modeling ecological data from both actively and passively restored habitats, his results will be essential for restoration management strategies spanning from local patches to landscape level in one of the Biodiversity's hotspots.
