You have four methods to choose from.  They are:

  • Transfer of digital files
  • Hardcopies - supplied by students
  • Hardcopies - reproduction by FWIL
  • Grant access to Blackboard

Administrative Contact
Michelle McGee, 302 Bailey/Howe, 656-0761, michelle.mcgee@uvm.edu or fwil@uvm.edu

I am happy to send you a timely reminder.
Send me an email indicating:
the date you estimate collecting work to submit and
the method you plan to use.

Transfer of digital files

For ease of transfer, once you have collected digital copies of work from your students, create a .zip file that combines individual pieces of student work.  Email the file(s) to Michelle McGee.  If your zipped file is too large to email, use UVM ftp I will receive notification automatically when I can retrieve it.

As far as timing, the simplest approach to assure we get “stragglers" as well would be to wait for all papers to be turned in before passing student files to us. Sending multiple files, as work comes in, is acceptable as well.  Keep in mind that, if you grade digitally and are waiting for stragglers before sending files to us, we prefer to have an ungraded copy. So, in advance of grading, keep an ungraded file copy to pass on to us if possible.  That said, we would rather receive a graded file than no file.  We can redact but we can’t create student work out of thin air!

Hardcopies - supplied by students

Once you have hardcopies in hand of student work you are submitting, get in touch with Michelle who can arrange to pick them up at your convenience, or you are welcome to bring them, or have them couriered to, the FWIL office in 302 Bailey/Howe.  If you are bringing them to the office, keep in mind we are not open past 5 pm (4 pm on Wed) or on weekends.

If you have student work that gets turned in but for which the student did not bring a second copy, I suggest you separate those papers right away.  Copy them if you have the resources at hand, or turn them in to me with a big colorful coversheet, alongside the ones we get to keep.  I will know to copy the ones with the coversheet and return the originals to you.  On the coversheet, tell me what timeframe you have in mind for receiving them back and how best to return them to you.

It's our hope that we will end up getting “stragglers" as well.  The simplest approach would be to wait for all to get turned in before giving us the work.  However, if you have some papers that need to be copied (the student forgot the 2nd copy) you might get in a pickle if you are making an effort to grade right away.  (We prefer to have ungraded work, though we'll work with whatever we end up getting - redacting as necessary.)  See what makes sense to you, but one option would be to send what you have right away and attach a note, along with the hardcopies you are turning in, indicating how many papers are missing and if/when you expect to receive them.  I would then aim to send you an email reminder when that time arrived.

FWIL-reproduced hardcopies

This requires sharing original work from your students with us to copy, to be returned to you in 24 hours or less.  When you anticipate having originals in hand, get in touch with Michelle McGee to schedule to have them picked up at your convenience, or you are welcome to bring them, or have them couriered to, the FWIL office in 302 Bailey/Howe.  Either way, please do be in touch in advance so I can be sure someone is available to pick up or receive the work and to make the needed copies.

Attach a coversheet to the work you submit, telling me what timeframe you have in mind for receiving them back and how best to return them to you.

It's our hope that we will end up getting any “stragglers" as well.  The simplest approach would be to wait for all to get turned in before giving us the work.  However, this may put you in a pickle if you are making an effort to grade right away.

Grant access to Blackboard

To make it possible for us to access the files using Blackboard's assignments module, use the MYUVM portal to grant TA access for your course to Michelle McGee.  My netid is “mkmcgee.”

Let me know when permission is in place.  I also need to know the name of the assignment exactly as it appears in the assignment module so that I can easily identify the right one in the assignment list I see for you in Bb.  You are free to go ahead and grade papers in Bb as usual. The download method we use grabs the ungraded assignment only.
