Project:
Red spruce growth comparison: calcium addition and reference watersheds at Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, NH

Objectives: To compare the effects of calium-addition on red spruce growth dynamics, we examined the annual growth of dominant and codominant red spruce trees growing in the reference and calcium-addition watersheds at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, NH.

What's this?

Description: In 2006, we examined the annual growth of dominant and codominant red spruce trees growing in the reference watershed (WS6) and calcium-addition watershed (WS1) at Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest (Thorton, NH) to compare the effects of Ca-addition on red spruce growth dynamics.

Project Metadata

Taxonomic standard used: USDA Plants Database

How plots were selected: Plots were selected within each WS6 (reference) and WS1 (Ca-addition).

How trees were selected: {null}

Exclusion of trees (if any): Not provided

How cores were collected: Not provided

How cores were processed: Cores were mounted, dried, and sanded, and annual growth rings were measured to the nearest 0.01 mm. Cores were then visually crossdated and aged using standard dendrochronological methods (Stokes and Smiley 1968). The computer program COFECHA was used to crossdate cores.

Exclusion of cores (if any): Not provided
