    Methods

    • Current Methods
      • Sample site establishment
        • Method Description: Four sites were established for vegetation sampling so that each site may be accurately relocoated for re-study in future years for comparative purposes. Each sample site (20x30m) is subdivided into a 10x10 grid of 100 intersections, spaced 2x3m apart. A random number array determined the x, y coordinates of grid intersections to be sampled. Frequency and cover data were gathered in addition to general observations.

    Sampling Equipment

    • Current Equipment
      • Laser theodolite
        • Started: 1991-06-01
        • Sampling Description: Laser theodolite (Nikeon DTM-5 Total Survey Stystem) to survey each quadrat.

    Site Characteristics

    • Site Description: West slope of Mt. Mansfield above 2500 feet. Sites at Thunderbolt Gap, West Chin Top, West Chin Low and Summit Saddle.
