    • Summit weather data
      • Started: 1954-01-01
      • Method Description: Summit weather conditions are reported to the National Weather Service each night by a crew of engineers stationed at the WCAX television tranmitter located on the ridgeline.

    • Temperature
      • Started: 1954-11-01
      • Method Description: Ambient temperature at time of observation, daily maximum and minimum temperatures, precipitation depth and snow depth are measured.

Sampling Equipment

  • Current Equipment
    • Rain gauge
      • Started: 1954-11-01
      • Sampling Description: Belfort rain gauge

Site Characteristics

  • Site Description: The Official Snow Stake is located high atop Mount Mansfield (elevation 4393' or 1339 m). Actually, the stake isn't quite at the summit: it's located a bit lower, around 3900', just off the Toll Road which leads to the summit ridge. The weather station is located at approximately 44.5248N, -72.8152W. The approximate elevation of the weather station is 3919 feet.

  • Site Description: Summit of Mt. Mansfield near WCAX transmitter, in open field. Site with a southeast aspect and a 2% slope.
