What is a food system, and why does it matter?
The production of food on the land and for human consumption is made up of interconnected systems, practices, relationships, inputs and outcomes. Because of this inherent complexity, food systems work requires us to consider many integrated facets. A healthy and sustainable system for food production takes into account production, distribution, environmental sustainability, food access and equity, nutrition, worker safety and fair compensation, recognizes that systems are neither static nor separated from the land and communities that they exist within, and maximizes health, environmental and social wellbeing.
What We Do
At the center of our program is a dedication to conducting cutting-edge research, providing accessible education, and supporting communities to create positive change in their food systems.
Community Collaboration
We leverage our expertise to support community projects and identify partnerships that progress successful research, inform policy, make efficient use of limited resources and develop practices that build resilience, equity and sustainability for the benefit of all.
