Director of Student Financial Services

Marie Johnson has been working in UVM’s Student Financial Service's office for 26 years and has been the Director for 10 years. She also serves as the Bursar of the University where she oversees all receivables activities including billing, collections, refunding, and loan repayment functions. As the Director of Financial Aid, she is responsible for the implementation of the University’s financial aid leveraging strategy, maintaining compliance with Federal Title IV Financial Aid regulations, management of Undergraduate Student Employment, the Federal Work Study program, and centralized administration of endowed and restricted gift scholarship funds.

Marie is the President-Elect for the Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (EASFAA). She has previously served EASFAA as Membership Chair, Chair of the Multicultural and Diversity Committee as well as service on a number of EASFAA committees and task forces. Marie has been a member of the Vermont Association of Financial Aid Administrators (VASFAA) since 2005 and completed a term as VASFAA Secretary in 2013. Marie has been a member of the Coalition of State University Aid Administrators (COSUAA) since 2010 and has served on the COSUAA Steering Committee since 2013. Marie has been a long-time member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO).

Marie has receive two degrees from UVM, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Master’s degree in Public Administration.

Areas of Expertise and/or Research

The Office of Student Financial Services (SFS) collaborates with the University to oversee student finance matters, including federal and institutional financial aid, scholarships, student receivables, collections, loan repayment, and the Student Employment Office. Serving as a strategic partner, SFS supports university recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives for all student levels. From initial interest to graduation, SFS assists students and parents, guiding them through enrollment and supporting graduates in education loan repayment.
