Equity Minded Syllabus

Microsoft Teams

A well-designed syllabus thoughtfully connects course goals with assignments, activities, and assessments and uses an inclusion and equity lens to frame student support. During this workshop, we’ll look at how the language and content of your own syllabus demystifies your course, welcomes students, connects them to resources, and sets you up for more effective and efficient grading. Bring a copy of your syllabus and leave with a plan for final revisions that better serve you and your students.

Brightspace Grading: Setting up the Grade Book

Microsoft Teams

This workshop covers how to set up and manage the Grade Book in your Brightspace course. We will demonstrate the best ways to organize the Grade Book and the best ways to enter grades. Some instructors may find it beneficial to create their Grades area anew rather than editing what has been migrated from Blackboard, and this session will help you decide which option is best for your course.

Getting to Know Your Students as Writers

Microsoft Teams

Getting to know your students as writers not only fosters a sense of belonging in the classroom, but also provides valuable insight into how their writing backgrounds, interests, and goals might intersect with the work you assign. In this session, we’ll explore ways to build rapport with students and adapt examples of low-effort strategies to fit your needs. Taking a little time to get to know your students as writers now will pay off as the semester unfolds.

UDL Webinar – Enhancing Learning Capacity: Supporting Executive Functions

303 Howe, CTL Classroom

Join us in the viewing of a webinar hosted by Jennifer Pusateri, exploring the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Guideline, Executive Functions. Since COVID-19, many students consistently encounter difficulties with motivation, focus, time management, planning, and organization. Poor executive functioning is likely to blame. A large body of research has shown that stress, trauma, anxiety, and depression are widely known to compromise executive functioning (which includes self-regulation). While we can’t directly remove things like stress or trauma from our students’ plates, there are some adjustments we can make that will help remove learning barriers for students. This session will provide a brief overview of executive functioning, connections to the Executive Functions UDL guideline, and many strategies for implementing these supports in your course.
