Applying to become a STEM Scholar is easy! Follow the steps below to express your interest.
Admissions Criteria
Body
  • Applicants must be offered admission to University of Vermont as an Early Action or Early Decision applicant in one of the majors of study listed below.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an interest to increasing diversity and inclusion in STEM fields
  • Applicants are required to be US Citizens applying for first-year, full time admission to UVM.  External or Internal Transfer and International applicants are not eligible for consideration.
  • Students admitted to multiple UVM programs – Honors College, Liberal Arts Studies Program (LASP) for example  – will have to choose to participate in STEM Scholars or the alternate. 
  • Current UVM students are not eligible to transfer into the STEM Scholars Program.

STEP 1

To be considered for the STEM Scholars program, prospective students who are pursuing eligible majors and meet the admission criteria (listed above) should apply to the University of Vermont using the Common or Coalition application link below by November 1st for either Early Action or Early Decision I.

There is no separate application required, though students are encouraged to express their interest in STEM Scholars by providing their contact information below or emailing STEMScholars@uvm.edu.

STEP 2

Body

Students admitted Early Action or Early Decision I will be notified of their eligibility for STEM Scholars in mid to late December.  To be considered, students must complete the required short answer prompt (below) that will be due in early January.  Students will be notified of a date in their notification letter.

Our Common Ground at UVM outlines six values that underpin the university’s inclusive and educationally purposeful community. At UVM, STEM students of all backgrounds and identities learn to solve complex problems, find their purpose, and challenge injustice in all its forms.

STEP 3

Body

Students selected for Candidate Night will be notified in late January/early February.  Students need to confirm attendance for both the February Admitted Student Event and Candidate Night by the date indicated in their letter in order to be considered for STEM Scholars.

STEP 4

Body

Students will attend both a February Admitted Student Event and Candidate Night as part of the evaluation process.  

STEP 5

Body

Students will be notified of acceptance into the STEM Scholars program in early April.

STEP 6

Body

Admitted students will attend a full-funded 6-week Summer Bridge program starting in early summer.  It is our welcoming of STEM Scholars to the UVM community.
