Welcome to the UVM Greenhouses

Housed within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, UVM's greenhouse facilities support the research, teaching and outreach needs of many departments throughout the college and university. The university maintains three separate facilities located on or within five miles of main campus.

Research

Collectively, the greenhouse facilities provide over 12,000 square feet of controlled environment space for plant-related research. The campus complex currently houses research exploring insect ecology, biological invasions, plant systematics, and forest responses to climate change led by faculty in the Departments of Agriculture, Landscape, and Environment (ALE) and Plant Biology (PBIO). Education

The main campus greenhouse conservatory houses a living plant collection consisting of 400 individual taxa, comprising a broad-range of specimens hailing from subtropical and temperate regions around the globe. Our diverse range of plants provide a unique teaching tool and are enjoyed by many UVM courses from arts, to plant sciences.

Outreach

The main campus greenhouse hosts several plant sales throughout the year that are open to both the UVM campus community and the public. With the help of student interns and workers, plants are also cultivated for ongoing sales at UVM's Cat Pause store in the Davis Center. Explore our offerings and pick up your UVM-grown plant today.
