PROCEDURE FOR MAINTAINING YOUR LABORATORY NOTEBOOK

I.  INTRODUCTION - Describe the purpose of the laboratory exercise you have done.

II.  PROCEDURE/METHODS - Refer to the protocol in the lab manual only.  There is no need to reprint the protocol.  Describe only additions, deletions and changes to the written protocol.

III.  RESULTS - Describe your results obtained from the experiment.  Present data in tables and graphs.  These are to be done formally (i.e. overheads or Powerpoint presentations) for class discussions/lab meetings.

IV.  DISCUSSION - Summarize and interpret the results obtained.  Discuss data and methods used.  Compare and contrast the results obtained to those expected based on lecture material and your literature research.  Where appropriate, discuss the factors that must be controlled in each experiment.  Discuss any problems that arose and how to avoid them in the future.  Discuss how the methods and techniques used in the laboratory exercise are employed generally in biomedical research.
