Plant Identification
Tallest tree in the world; restricted to fog belt in the coastal CA and southern OR. The tree is relatively tolerant with decay resistant wood; high quality lumber. Needles are persistent, dimorphic, those on lateral branches (most common) are 1/2" long, linear, 2-ranked, with 2 lines of stomata below. Leaves are on the tips of the leaders and fertile branchlets 1/4", oblong to scale-like. Cones are about 1" and ovoid to subglobose with peltate scales.
