Red fir is dominant; others include western white pine and white fir (at the lower elevations of the zone); lodgepole pine and mountain hemlock are found at the upper elevations of the zone, with white bark and limber pines at the timberline.Montane Zone:
White fir is dominant in the upper elevations of the zone. In the lower elevations, incense cedar, sugar pine, Jeffery pine, ponderosa pine, Douglas-fir (especially in the north); giant sequoia is localized.Foothills (woodland zone):
Digger pine and blue oak.
East Slope (Much steeper and drier; a less favorable environment):
Subalpine:
Mostly high elevation pines and patches of lodgepole pine.Montane
Primarily Jeffery pine.
