Plant Identification
A tree introduced to the U.S. during colonial times which is now naturalized in much of the U.S. Leaves are simple, deciduous, alternate, elliptical-ovate, serrate, and pubescent below. Twigs are stout with spur shoots. Buds are usually covered with white pubescence. Fruit is a pome that matures in autumn. Bark is smooth when young and becomes scaly as the tree matures.
