Internship Summary

My project at the UVM Office of Sustainability came in two parts. First was a Google Sketchup 3D modeling project that’s goal was to build a few buildings around UVM’s campus. This was largely done as a pilot program to test out how a student would fare with modeling for the office. As I have no formal training in Sketchup, this part of the project was largely unsuccessful. The second part of the project was to convey renewable systems for buildings on campus in a basic understandable way and to show the importance of doing energy efficiency (LEED certification) before doing renewables. This includes obtaining the data for energy use, design of renewable systems, and then displaying this information in a simple format. I decided to turn this into a Powerpoint that focuses on the pros and cons of renewable energy in Burlington and shows the difference between LEED gold, silver, and uncertified buildings in terms of renewable system size and cost.
