CONCERNS FOR PRIVACY HAVE RUN AMOK AND PROMOTE FRAUD AND GOVERNMENT DOMINATION

Richard A. Epstein National Review, September 27, 1999, TITLE: Privacy, Please; Thinking about a troublesome concept. // acs-VT2001

In this context, we see privacy run amok. Rather than functioning as a bulwark of freedom, it becomes, not to put too fine a word on it, a handmaiden to private fraud and government domination. This concealment does not just protect privacy and tranquillity; it forces other people to part with hard cash against their will.

CURRENT PRIVACY PROTECTION LAS ONLY RESULT IN MANDATES FOR SURVEILLANCE

SIMON DAVIES; London School of Economics, The Houston Chronicle, June 27, 1999, SECTION: OUTLOOK; Pg. 1 TITLE: Big Brother Lives // acs-VT2001

Poorly drafted privacy and data protection laws are frequently used as instruments not to protect rights but to mandate surveillance. The state can do more or less as it pleases with our data in the name of law enforcement, public interest, public health, national security or national revenue.
