WE HAVE TO GIVE UP DATA EVERY DAY TO SURVIVE
WE ARE FORCED MANY TIMES EVERY DAY TO DISCLOSE INFORMATION ABOUT OURSELVES
SIMON DAVIES; London School of Economics, The Houston Chronicle, June 27, 1999, SECTION: OUTLOOK; Pg. 1 TITLE: Big Brother Lives // acs-VT2001
We are routinely entrapped into handing over our data. Dozens of laws force us to disclose personal information that is then used for unrelated purposes. Government surveillance has infiltrated every element of our communications networks. Telecommunications companies are required by law to ensure that their equipment is "wiretap friendly."
EVERY DAY WE GIVE UP INFORMATION OVER AND OVER AGAIN
Piper Cole, director of global public policy for Sun Microsystems, USA TODAY, Friday, SECTION: NEWS; Pg. 14A TITLE: We take privacy seriously Web // acs-EE2001
Every day we engage in activities that give up information about us. We give strangers our credit card numbers so we can buy things, our license numbers to safely use checks, and our Social Security numbers to get jobs. Sometimes the information is captured and analyzed, as with a grocery courtesy card that provides discounts without coupons.
