The UVM Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies Program (GSWS) is an interdisciplinary program devoted to the study of gender and sexuality as fundamental categories of social and cultural analysis. Gender and sexuality are studied as social systems, identities, discourses, and institutions that intersect with other systems including class, race, ethnicity, disability, and nationality.
Our Strengths
A Community of Scholars
Faculty who teach in the program are leading thinkers in the broad fields of gender, sexuality, and women's studies. We host innovative programming and events on campus and create opportunities for undergraduate scholarship.
An Intimate Learning Environment
Offering a B.A. and two minors, GSWS brings together students and faculty from across campus who are all committed to academic explorations of gender and sexuality. Classes foster an inclusive, intimate setting that values diverse forms of knowledge and experience.
Engaged Alumni
Graduates of UVM's GSWS program often pursue careers in advocacy, counseling, education, health care, media, policy, politics, or social services. But through their liberal arts education at UVM, they are equipped with a broad range of transferable skills enabling them to succeed in any profession.
