What still stands from between 1869 and 1877 in Burlington, Vermont?
This structure is a north facing, two-story, gable front, two by three bay with an offset front entrance. The side porch has been enclosed and the additions on the rear of the building have been altered in appearance, but not in footprint. [1] There seem to have been few changes to the structure, it retains its cladding and window trim.
Not much is known about the early history of this house. The first mention of the residents of this address is in 1907. [2] The house may have been a rental property home to laborers who worked at the near by lumberyards on the waterfront as many other structures in this area. [3] In 1890, a house appears, set back from the street, and the owner is listed as Mrs. E. Dupau, [4] but there is no mention of her in the city directories. The later residents of this house were skilled laborers who worked in the area. [5]
