MARRIED

Joshua Whitney, 25 November 1837.  The son of Oliver Whitney and Rebecca Nichols, he was born 25 February 1813 and died 11 September 1888 in Rochester, VT. 

At the age of 51, Joshua Whitney served as a private in Company H of the 1st Vermont Heavy Artillery from 1864-1865, when he was discharged for disability.  His wife, Sarah A. Whitney, applied for a widow’s pension in 1889.

CHILDREN

1.       Erastus A. Whitney, b. 12 July 1839, d. 12 March 1841.

2.       Robert B. Whitney, b. 15 August 1841.  Enlisted 24 August 1861 as a private in Company E, 4th Vermont Infantry, discharged for disability 10 August 1863.

3.       John O. Whitney, b. 14 August 1844, d. 13 June 1862 of disease in New Orleans, LA.  Served as a private in the 2nd Vermont Battery of Light Artillery.

     

4.       Ida J. Whitney, b. 18 December 1846, m. 1) 24 November 1864, Emulus A. Whitmore, 2) 04 October 1884, Amasa Lovewell. Resided in Gardner, MA. Children: Oscar E. Whitmore, b. 12 August 1868; Cliff A. Whitmore, b. 13 December 1870, d. 02 July 1882; Earnest A. Lovewell, b. 15 April 1886.

5.       Sidney C. Whitney, b. 09 March 1849, unmarried, resided in Rochester, VT.

6.       Celestia Ann Whitney, b. 26 March 1854, m. H.W. Kinsman, 25 December 1878, resided in Rochester, VT.

7.       Mary Elizabeth Whitney, b. 22 August 1857, m. C.E. Jones, 11 November 1878, resided in Rochester, VT.

1870 Rochester, Windsor County, VT (dwelling 187).  Joshua (57) and Sarah (53) are listed with their children Sidney (21), [Celestia] Ann (16), and [Mary] Elizabeth (12).  No real estate value is listed.

Rochester, Windsor County, VT.  Joshua (67) and Sarah (63) Whitney reside with their son Sidney (31), and their grandson Oscar Whitmore (11).  Oscar is the son of Ida Whitney and E.A. Whitmore.

Rochester, Windsor County, VT.   Daughter Mary Jones (24) is living with husband Charles (22), and daughter Grace (8 months).

Brandon, Rutland County, VT.   Son Robert B. Whitney is enumerated with wife Alice, and Alice's daughter Daisy (2), from her prior marriage to Hiram Fowler.
