1.       John Q. A. White, who was b. 22 April 1829, and d. 02 October 1893 of “heart disease.”   Probably named in honor of John Quincy Adams, who served as president of the United States from 1825-1829, he was the son of Ricel (?) and Sarah A. White.

2.       John Lyons, 28 November 1900, Brandon, Rutland County, VT by M.E. pastor D.F. Brooks.  Olive’s parents names are recorded on her marriage record as Fuller Smith and Miriam Rowell.

CHILDREN

1.      Edgar J. White, b. about 1855, d. 29 April 1865, age 10 years, 6 months.

     

2.      Douglas/Morrison/Mason White, b. about 1860 NY, d. between 1880-1900.

3.      Florence Edith White, b. 05 June 1867 in Vermont, d. 01 December 1875 of “canker rash” at the age of 8.

     

4.      John Estwick White, b. 27 May 1871, d. 07 January 1873 of “congestion of lungs.”

     

FEDERAL CENSUS RECORDS

1830 Goshen, Addison County, VT.  The Fuller Smith family is enumerated next to the Horace Brink and William Brink families.  There is one male aged 40-50 (Fuller), one male 5-10 (Isaac), one male 10-15 (Chester), one male 15-20 (Oliver), one female 40-50 (Miriam), one female under 5 (Olive), one female 5-10 (Elizabeth), and one female 10-15 (Unknown).
1840 Goshen, Addison County, VT.  The Fuller Smith family includes one male between the ages of 50-60 (Fuller), two males 15-20 (Chester and Isaac), one female 50-60 (Miriam), and one female 10-15 (Olive).  They are living next door to William and Polly Brink. Son Oliver Smith is enumerated separately in the same town with a wife and three young children.  The population of the town at that time was 621.

The quilt inscription places Olive T. Smith in Lowell, MA around 1850, but she does not appear in the census records there, or in Rochester, VT. 

Benson, Rutland County, VT.  Olive’s future husband John Q.A. White (21) is working as a laborer on the Henry N. Sheel farm.

1860 Saratoga County, NY.  John A. White (31 VT) and Olive Smith (33 VT) are living with their children Edgar (5 VT) and Douglas (b. April 1860 NY).
1870 Rochester, Windsor County, VT.  Olive White (43 VT) is living with her husband John (41 VT), and their children Morrison (10 NY) and Florence (2 VT). 
1880 Rochester, Windsor County, VT.  Oliver P. Smith (68) is living in Rochester in the household of John Q. White (51 VT) and his wife Olive T. (53 VT). They have a son, Mason A. White (20 NY).  Oliver Smith is noted as John White’s brother-in-law, which makes him Olive’s sister.  The father and mother of Oliver Smith and Olive White were born in Connecticut and New Hampshire, respectively, as were Fuller and Miriam Smith.
1900 Brandon, Rutland County, VT (dwelling 46).  Olive T. White is a 73-year old widow who owns her own home free of mortgage.  She had four children, but none are living.  Mary Thomas, a 28-year old household servant, lives with her.
