Samuel E. Drake, between 1850-1854.  He was born 03 December 1825 in Ohio, and died 27 April 1889 in Wisconsin. 

Samuel E. Drake served in Company E of the 18th Wisconsin Infantry, and Company B of the 36th Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War.  He applied for an invalid’s pension in 1878, and Adaline applied for a widow’s pension in June 1889, shortly following his death.

1840 Goshen, Addison County, VT.  The Harvey Copley household consists of one male between the ages of 40-50, one male 10-15, two males 5-10, one female 40-50, one female 15-20, two females 10-15, and two females 5-10.
1850

Lowell, Essex County, MA.  Enumerated on August 15, 1850, Hannah (26), Lois (24), Adeline (20), and Mary (16) Copley are living in the boarding house of “L. Crawford.”  Miss Lucy Crawford ran a boarding house for the Merrimac Manufacturing Corporation in Lowell, which means that the Copley sisters likely worked there.  Incorporated in 1822, it was the earliest and the largest textile mill in town.  In 1851, they employed 1,633 female and 622 male workers.  The entire town of Lowell had a population of some 33,000.  Their boarding house serviced about 50 young women.

Howland, Trumbull County, OH.  Future husband Samuel Drake (24) is living with brother Edward (26) and sister Rowanna (25).

1860 Washington, Sauk County, WI.  Adaline Drake (31 VT) is living with her husband Samuel (34 OH) and their two children: George (5 WI) and Mary (2 WI).  Samuel is a farmer with $1,200 in real estate value.
1870 Washington, Sauk County, WI.  “Addeline” (40) is living with her husband Samuel (44) and their children George (14) and Mary (11).  The local school teacher, Emma M. Bacon, boards with them.  Real estate $1,200.  Personal estate $875.
1880 Orion, Richland County, WI.  Adeline (50) and Samuel Drake (53) are living with daughters Mary (21), Ada (9), and Ella (5)—all born in Wisconsin.  Samuel’s father and mother were both born in PA.
