John Dutton, 24 October 1854 in Brandon, VT.  The son of William Dutton and Lydia Johnson, he was born 15 May 1833 in Brandon, VT, and died 24 February 1905 of “organic heart disease.”

John Dutton served as a private (and then artificer) in the 2nd Vermont Battery of Light Artillery from 1862-1865.  He applied for an invalid’s pension in 1865, and Diantha M. Dutton applied for a widow’s pension in 1905.

CHILDREN

Seven children, including:

1.       Delbert Andrew Dutton, b. 28 May 1856, d. 03 February 1867 of typhoid fever.

2.       John Isaac Dutton, b. October 1857, d. 16 March 1860 of a tumor.

3.       Lewis Henry Dutton, b. 07 March 1860, d. 11 March 1860 of “convulsion fits.”

4.       Lilly May Dutton, b. 20 May 1864, d. 21 February 1924 of “carcinoma of breast” in Brandon, VT, m. William J. Grover, 11 September 1889.  Children: Mable L. Grover, b. January 1891, Abbie M. Grover, b. January 1892, Oscar J. Grover, b. September 1897, Lola A. Grover, b. about 1903.

Goshen, Addison County, VT.  The William Brink, Jr. family includes one male between the ages of 20-30, one male under 5, one female 20-30, and one female under 5 (Diantha).  Enumerated next to the Fuller Smith family. 

1850 Rochester, Windsor County, VT (dwelling 117).  William Brink, Jr. (39) and wife Polly (33) have six children:   Maria (12), Norman (10), Truman (8), Henry (6), Asro (3), and Alice (1).  Their household also includes William’s parents, William (81) and Naomi (70).  Real estate $200.
1860 Rochester, Windsor County, VT (dwelling 203).  John (26) and Diantha (25) Dutton are living with son Dilbert (5).   No real estate or personal estate listed.

Sudbury, Rutland County, VT.  Daughter Lilla M. (34) is living with husband William J. Grover (29).  They have been married for 10 years have three children: Mable L., Abbie M., and Oscar J.

Sudbury, Rutland County, VT.  Daughter Lillian M. (43) and husband William J. Grover (40) are listed with two children:   Oscar J. (13) and Lola A. (7).  They had four children, all surviving.

1920 Brandon, Rutland County, VT.  Enumerated on 19 January, 1920, just months before her death, a widowed Diantha M. Dutton (81) is living on Champlain Street within the household of William J. Grover (51), wife Lillie M. (55) and their grandchildren Maria Guyette, Kathleen P. Dunn (4) and Patrick W. Dunn (1).  She is listed as “mother-in-law.”
