Frania Darringer showing a girl how to hold an oyster

"I interned at this organization in Long Island that restored bay habitats through shellfish restoration. Educational outreach is a big part of our mission, so I spent a lot of time working with kids. We showed them all ages of oysters and clams, we taught them to use nets in the ocean, and did lots of other fun activities. In this photo, I’m showing a young girl how to hold an oyster. We are at the Bellport Day Fair, and I love this photo because it highlights the solution to climate change - education. Starting small, we should work with our communities and teach our neighbors good habits, and how to respect our earth. Like a trail of dominos, hopefully people with learn and educate each other and we will see a green planet once again."
