First week   ((August 28 - September 1)
Tuesday  - Introduction to the course.  Peruse syllabus, handouts on names of cases, grammatical terms.  Discuss course
                 goals.  is a link to a list of grammatical terminology, which you  must memorize so that we
                 can use Russian in the classroom.
Thursday  -  Go over first nine roots and grammatical terms in class.  Before Tuesday's class, so that I have time to correct them,
                   send me over the Internet as an MS WOrd attached file, two sentences for each of the first nine roots.  I will correct them and
                   return them to you.  (If you wait until the last minute when I have little time to examine your work, you lose the
                   opportunity to have the sentences corrected.)

Second week  (September 4 - 8)
Tuesday  -  Be prepared for rapid-fire oral drill.   Additionally, be able to quickly say the sentences you have sent me for each
                   of the first nine roots.  Contextual reading strategy from handout.
Thursday  - QUIZ on the first 9 roots.  For the quiz, be prepared to write TWO sentences using each of the roots tested, define
                    the meaning of each root tested and give TWO additional lexical items (with English translations) for each root.. 
                   In class - go over roots 10-18.   Work on roots 10-18 and grammatical terms in class.  For Tuesday,  over the Internet,
                   before 6 pm on Monday, send me two sentences using each of this week's nine roots.

Тhird week  (September 11-15)
Tuesday  -    Be prepared for rapid-fire oral drill.   Additionally,  be able to quickly say the sentences you have sent me for
                    each of this week's nine roots.   View the first film excerpt  «Кукушка» at home.  Watch the excerpt over and over
                    until you understand it and can talk about it in Russian.   These assignments are best accomplished with another
                    class member with whom you are comfortable.
Thursday  - QUIZ on the first 18 roots.  Go over roots 19-27 in class.
                   For Tuesday,  over the Internet, before 6 pm on Monday, send me two sentences using each of this week's nine roots. 
                    Begin to go over «Кукушка» in class.  Be prepared to talk about the film excerpt in simple Russian.
                     In class - go over roots 18-27.

Fourth week   (September 18 - 22)

Tuesday  -   In class - oral drill on last ten roots.  Drill using these roots in sentences.   Continue discussion of «Кукушка» in class.
Thursday  - QUIZ on the first 27 roots.  Go over roots 27-35 in class.
                   For Tuesday,  over the Internet, before 6 pm on Monday, send me two sentences using each of this week's nine roots. 
                    Watch second film excerpt from  «Война» at home with a friend.

Fifth week  (September 25 - 29)
Tuesday  -  Discuss in Russian the excerpt from  «Война».  Work orally on the first 35 roots for Thursday's exam.
Thursday -  EXAM on the first 36 roots.  The exam will have the same format as the quizzes.  At home, please go over the next nine roots
                   in preparation for the homework due on Monday.

Sixth week  (October 2 - 5)
Tuesday  -  In class - oral drill on last nine roots (through 44).  Drill using these roots in sentences.   Watch the third  film
                   excerpt from  «Возвращение» =The Return at home with a friend.  This is an unbelievably powerful film.
Thursday -   QUIZ on the first 44 roots.  Go over roots 45-54 in class.
                   For Tuesday,  over the Internet, before 6 pm on Monday, send me two sentences using each of this week's nine roots. 
                    Watch third film excerpt from  «Возвращение» in class.

Seventh week  (October 9 - 13)
Tuesday -         Discuss in Russian the excerpt from  «Возвращение».   In class - oral drill on last nine roots (through 54)
Thursday  -    QUIZ on the first 54 roots.  Go over roots 54-63 in class.  For Tuesday,  over the Internet, before 6 pm on Monday,
                      send me two sentences using each of this week's nine roots.

Eighth week  (October 15 - 19)
Tuesday  - In class - oral drill on last nine roots (through 64).  Drill using these roots in sentences.
Thursday -  QUIZ on the first 64 roots.  Go over roots 64-70 in class.  For Tuesday,  over the Internet, before 6 pm on Monday,
                      send me two sentences using each of this week's roots.

Ninth week  (October 23-27)
Tuesday - In class - oral drill on last nine roots (through 70).  Drill using these roots in sentences.  Watch the third  film
                   excerpt from  «Брат» =Brother at home with a friend.  This is a powerful film.
Thursday  - QUIZ on the first 70 roots.  Go over roots 70-76 in class.  For Tuesday,  over the Internet, before 6 pm on Monday,
                      send me two sentences using each of this week's roots.
      
Tenth week  (October 30 - November 3)
Tuesday   - Discuss in Russian the excerpt from «Брат».
Thursday -  QUIZ on the first 76 roots. The exam will have the same format as the quizzes.  At home, please go over the next six roots
                   in preparation for the homework due on Monday.

Eleventh week  (November 6 - 10)
Tuesday  -  In class - oral drill on last six roots (through 82).  Drill using these roots in sentences.
Thursdayy  -  EXAM on the first 82 roots.

Twelfth week  (Novermber 13 - 17)
Tuesday  -  Discuss in Russian the excerpt from «Живой».  In class - oral drill on last six roots (through 88).  Drill using these
                    roots in sentences.
Thursday  -  Watch the sixth film excerpt from  «Утомлённые солнцем» =Burnt by the Sun (actual translation of the Russian is
                    Exhausted by the Sun) at home with a friend.
                    QUIZ on the first 88 roots.   Go over roots 89-94 in class.  For Tuesday AFTER BREAK,  over the Internet, before
                    6 pm on Monday, send me two sentences using each of this week's roots.

Thirteenth week  (Novermber 20 - 24)

Fourteenth week  (November 27 - December 1)
Tuesday  -  Discuss in Russian the excerpt from «Утомлённые солнцем».  In class - oral drill on last six roots (through 94).  Drill using
                these roots in sentences.
Thursday  -  In class - oral drill on last six roots (through 100).  Drill using these roots in sentences.  
                        Go over roots 95-100 in class.  For Tuesday,  over the Internet, before
                    6 pm on Monday, send me two sentences using each of this week's roots.

Fifteenth week  (December 4 - 7)
