The above photographs show the Grove Street Bridge during and after construction. The photo on the on the left was taken by on July 27, 1938. In the image on the right, dated November 21, 1940, Louis McAllister documents both the recently completed Grove Street Bridge, finished in September 1938, and the subsequent Grove Street paving project. Text typed on the back of McAllister's photograph calls the viewer's attention to the "stone dust surfacing of the sidewalks on both sides of the street as well as the asphalt armor coat surface on the pavement."[1] Also visible in this photograph is a large barn, seen on the left in the background and distinguished by its wide roof topped by a cupola. The structure appears on Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps as far back as 1889.
