186 Park Street
186 Park Street is an unusual design for the Park Street area with its gable front, two-story main block and entrance on the one-story shed porch. It is difficult to determine weather this porch entrance is original when looking at the 1877 BirdŐs Eye Map footprint of the building. There is a more obvious two-story addition to the back of the house with its low-pitched roofline that does not match the massing of the original house build circa 1877.
The house first appears in the Burlington City Directory of 1884-1885 and its owner was listed as J.A. Smith, a wholesale grocer. The house remained in his name with various boarders until at least 1901.[1] In 1930, a painter and a fireman bordered at this house.[2] The house has had a variety of owners and occupants though the years.
