Tips From TAs:
- Follow the
Critique Sheets! Objective must be stated.
Preview must be clear. PRACTICE!
- Objectives must
say how the audience will be changed: "I'm going to talk
to you about rock climbing" is NOT an objective.
"After my presentation you will know the basics of
rock climbing" is an objective.
- Restate must knows
must be SPECIFIC (not categorical).
- Don't read from
notes - use an outline, avoid trailing off voice and
filler words.
- Use natural hand
gestures, do not stand like a statue. Stand out from
behind the desk - whole body should be visible (have
speaker's aid advance slides if necessary).
- Have a STRONG
ENDING separate from the restate must knows.
- PAUSE FOR EFFECT!
- DRESS -
conservative & more formal than usual.
- It is YOUR
responsibility to set up the technology - not the TAs.
Set up BEFORE lab starts.
- When your
presentation is over. Remain in place for questions.
- Everyone is
expected to arrive early and stay the whole time - go to
the bathroom before lab.
- Source any facts
that are not common knowledge.
- Repeat questions
asked at the end of your presentation.
