Tips From the TAS:

  1. **** FOLLOW THE CRITIQUE SHEETS **** and practice in front of friends and get feedback!  Have them TIME you.
  2. Pause for Effect should be two full seconds of silence.  Don't say "Um" during the pause.
  3. Do not have any notes in your hands when you are presenting.  Put notes on desk nearby to refer to - keep your hand free.
  4. Objectives must clearly state how the audience will be changed "After my presentation you will know and do _____".  Do not just say "I'm going to talk to you about _____" - that is NOT an objective.
  5. Strong Endings should be separate from specific must-know summaries.
  6. Keep text to an absolute minimum on PowerPoint slides.  Use images instead of text (with sources cited under image).
  7. Don't talk to the screen - talk to the audience.
